How to Apply Our Makeup

If you are new to mineral makeup you will notice that the application process is quite different than a traditional foundation application.  As a beginner, it may take you a little while to master the process, but in to time you will be a pro!

1. Prep Your Skin

Before applying your foundation, be sure your skin is clean and properly moisturized.  We suggest waiting 5 minutes after you apply moisturizer to begin.  Mineral makeup is a dry application, and if the proper moisture balance is not achieved prior to applying, it may dry the skin.  This step is essential to achieve a successful application.

2.  The Application Process

Put a very small amount of product into the lid of your foundation jar. (If you are using our small foundation jar, you may want to use a saucer or small plate.) press your application brush into the product and swirl it slightly to work the product into the brush.  Tap the brush lightly on the edge of the lid to remove excess mineral powder.  Begin applying your foundation by brushing the product clockwise onto your face using a circular motion.  Continue this step until you get the coverage you want.  Mineral foundation is buildable, meaning you can continue to build the product onto your face until you achieve the coverage you desire.  The biggest mistake many women make is that they apply too much product at once which can result in uneven coverage and too much product in the creases.   A little product really goes a long way.

How do you know which type of brush to use when applying your foundation?  This depends on the type of coverage you are looking for.  A Kabuki is used for light coverage, an Application Brush is used for medium coverage, and a Buki on a Stick or Flat Brush are used to achieve maximum coverage.  One of the big myths surrounding mineral makeup is that it will not provide proper coverage.  If you desire more coverage than you are currently getting, you may want to use a concealer on any blotchy areas, blemishes or dark spots prior to applying your foundation.  You can also take advantage of our Custom Blend Foundation option in which we will evenly mix your foundation shade with your choice shade of concealer.  This option saves you time and money and is an option that we offer exclusively.

3.  Finishing Mineral Veil.  What is it, and do you really need to use it?

Our Mineral Veil is a very light/fine mineral powder and is the last step of the application process.  Veil is optional.  Some clients prefer it, and others choose to skip this step.  Finishing Veil is applied after your foundation, eye color, blusher/bronzer.  It adds a finished or "airbrush" type look to your skin while covering shine and absorbing excess oil.  Our veil contains Kaolin Clay which is an amazing natural oil absorbing mineral.  It is reccomended for those with combination/oily skin.

4.  Blushers, Bronzers and Eye Colors

These products are highly pigmented compared to conventional makeup and can easily be

over-applied. Our eye colors are especially concentrated for amazing wearability.  This product also adheres to the eyelid better than conventional shadows.
